Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Will Be a Love Letter to the Animated Series, Says Star Kumail Nanjiani
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire star Kumail Nanjiani has revealed that the upcoming sequel will be like "a long episode of the animated series."
In a recent tweet, Nanjiani, who plays new Ghostbuster Podcast host Muncher, said that the filmmakers were inspired by the beloved animated show The Real Ghostbusters, which ran from 1986 to 1991.
"I am a huge fan of The Real Ghostbusters (the animated series) and that show was a point of reference for this movie," Nanjiani wrote. "The filmmakers wanted to make a long episode of the animated series. So if you love that show as I do, be excited."
This is exciting news for fans of the animated series, which was known for its campy humor, heartwarming moments, and iconic villains. It will be interesting to see how director Gil Kenan and co-writer Jason Reitman incorporate those elements into the live-action film.
Of course, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will also feature plenty of action and adventure, as the Ghostbusters team takes on a new threat. But with Nanjiani's comments in mind, it's clear that the film will also have a lot of heart and humor.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to be released in theaters on March 29, 2024.
