Rural Development in Bangladesh

Ninety percent of our total population live in the rural areas. The culture and civilization of our country have come from our village life. Though many cities and towns have been built up in different parts of Bangladesh, the sad condition of our rural life remains the same. There was a time, en the farmers of our country had plenty of food-stuff including milk and fish whereas villagers are now deprived of our rural bareas.
Following steps should be taken for the development of our rural area. To meet the shortage of food-stuffs `Grow More Food' programme is essential. Modern methods of cultivation and cash credit should be given to the farmers for the development of agriculture. Agriculture alone cannot maintain such a large population. Cottage industry and agriculture must, therefore, bgo hand in hand. The people of the rural areas are now in ill health. The health of the villagers should be improved in order to make them active in different works. Educated and well off men should be encouraged to come forward. It is possible when facilities of earning, livelihood, recreation, education, health, food and sanitation are made available for them. The campaign `Go back to the village' will become successful if we co-operate with the present Govt. in connection with their activities for the development of the rural areas.
